Olivier Tarparga commissioned me to grow bricks for a wall his dancers built as part of their piece “When Birds Refused to Fly,” a dance piece that primarily explores the feel of everyday life in Burkina Faso under military coups and army control from 1966-1970, following independence from colonial France in 1960. Olivier is also interested in the potential future of human and more-than-human collaboration that emerges from the Black experience and cultural practices.
